North Fairview Elementary School Teacher Receives Kansas Master Teacher Award

Kristen Anderson, Fifth Grade Teacher at North Fairview Elementary, was named a 2023 Kansas Master Teacher from Emporia State University. 

Mrs. Anderson is in her sixth year in the Seaman School District with 21 years teaching in the Topeka area. “Kristen is data driven, spends countless hours planning individualized lessons to meet the needs of all of her students, and is always looking for opportunities to learn and grow professionally,” said Principal Kelli Finnegan. “She is not only a great teacher, she’s also a great resource for staff.” Mrs. Anderson is trained in Blended Learning, Project Based Learning, MACE (technology), MTSS, TASN, Kagan Cooperative Learning, and Active Schools to name a few. Mrs. Anderson also grows professionally through book studies and has gained meaningful information and strategies on trauma and growth mindset. 

Relationship building is also an important part of Mrs. Anderson’s success. “You can oftentimes find Kristen eating lunch with her students or attending her students’ extracurricular events outside of the school day,” said Finnegan. “Kristen is dedicated to her students, our school, and her profession.” 

Emporia State established the Kansas Master Teacher awards in 1954. The awards are presented annually to selected teachers who demonstrate the attributes of exemplary professional educators.

“I am both humbled and honored to receive the 2023 Master Teacher Award,” said Anderson. “I am truly blessed to work in a school district that has provided me opportunities to grow in my profession. I look forward to representing Seaman Schools at the upcoming Kansas Master Teacher Day and other upcoming events later this spring.”
